it's nothing special

WTF?

While inspecting the Microcenter book section today, I found that the Ubuntu 8.04 Unleashed advertises a “free upgrade to 8.10” when it is released.

Here is another with a couple apps open, tumblr is rolled up, gnome-terminal with a semi-transparent background (speaking of which, it’s a new laptop and I still haven’t found a background that fits yet.), and the menu button expanded.

Andrew and Ken, it’s a little delayed but here is my desktop w/ screenlets showing (without them its just a blank screen). Got my replacement menu in the upper left corner, facebook in the lower left (not sure if im gonna keep that), word of the day and battery monitor at the bottom, notepad and clock on the right, wireless connection at the top.

I finally got my wireless working in Ubuntu. It only took 6 days to realize that “L” is not a hexidecimal character! Yet another reason to get more sleep!

my new baby

Just got myself a new laptop:

HP DV9930us

  • Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • 17” WXGA+ 1440x900 Brightview display
  • 320GB SATA HD with room for a second
  • NVIDIA 512MB GeForce 8600M GS
  • 5 in 1 card reader
  • Lightscribe DVD+RW (+R/DL)

My plans for it:

  1. Get rid of Vista
  2. Put Ubuntu Hardy 64bit on

my new project

I’m taking “clean desktop” to a new level, stepping up my “no icon clutter” policy. I’m doing away with my panels, replacing them with gnome-do and possibly screenlets or Avant Window Navigator. So far I have taken the minimize button off of windows using gconf. Now I just roll them up instead of sending them to the window selector/taskbar. I just need to find a way to still have access to the apps/places/system menu (for when I’m not quite sure what I’m looking for) and the notification area (I update/upgrade like mad).
